From Nevada Representative September 9, 1891

Maxwell.

....One of the saddest things that has befallen our town in a long time, was the death of Mrs. S. E. Cooper on last Saturday. Since the birth of her babe, about seven weeks ago, she had been in poor health, but no one seemed to think she was seriously ill. About the middle of the week she began to fall and went down rapidly and was dead ere the community realized that her case was dangerous. The people gave ample testimony of the high esteem in which she was held by the large attendance at the funeral on Monday afternoon, and the many tokens of affection presented. The service at the house was conducted by Rev. J. E. Stauffacher, of Iowa Center, assisted by the resident ministers of the town. The music was very appropriate, Miss Maud Bowen at the organ. The remains were then followed to the grave by a large company of sorrowing friends, and tenderly laid to rest. She leaves a husband and six children to mourn her loss, one a babe of only seven weeks old. There is much sympathy for the family in their affliction. People came from far and near to attend the funeral, and every thing possible was done to show respect for her, and testify to her worth.
