Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Olga Pearl ("Sis") Cox was born March 30, 1921, to Oluf and Ann (Pedersen) Petersen on the family farm in Vernon Center, Minn. She passed away from this life into the loving arms of her Lord on Sunday, January 17, 2016, at Bethany Manor in Story City, Iowa at age 94, surrounded by her family.

At age seven, Sis moved to Gilbert, Iowa to live with relatives until the entire family moved from Minnesota to a farm southeast of Gilbert the next March. She attended Gilbert High School, graduating in 1941.

She married Leslie H. Matters in Bethany Mo. in 1941. He preceded her in death in July of 1976. She married Edward H. Cox in Cambridge, Iowa in 1979. He preceded her in death in March of 2008.

Sis is survived by a son, Delbert (Gayle) Matters of Havana, Kan.; a daughter, Rebecca Matters of Ames; her grandchildren, Nicky (Renee) Matters of Jamaica, Jeff Matters of Boone, Jenny Matters of Nevada, David (Lenore) Matters of Kansas City, Mo., Kim Bullington of Caney, Kan., and Sue (Nancy) Kozarevich of Dallas, Tex.; fourteen great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Ann (Jim) Cutright of Carmichael, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Betty Long of Collins and Doris Million of Escondido, Calif.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; two brothers, Irving (Sonny) Petersen and Delbert Petersen; four sisters, Viola Anderson, Edna Speck, Mary Matters and Annabelle Rickerl; one daughter-in-law, Betty Matters; two grandsons, Darcy Matters and Delbert Matters, Jr.; and a great-granddaughter, Patricia Young.

Her family was the focal point of her life. Going to Grandma's was a special treat where adventures and attention flourished. When Les enlisted in the U.S. Army in WWII, she and son Delbert drove to Colorado Springs, Colo. in a Model A to be with him. They also followed him to King City, Calif. until he was sent overseas. Sis was talented in sewing, for herself and her family - she crafted lovely items with her hands. Sis shared good times with friends and neighbors. She was a Sunday school secretary at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cambridge for many years. Sis and Ed actively pursued genealogy, traveling to central United States looking for local records and searching old cemeteries. They also traveled to Hawaii or Florida for many years to pollinate Ed's seed corn crop. Sis especially loved auctions and spent many Tuesday and Thursday evenings participating in local auction. She had lived in Gilbert, Ames and Cambridge and Story City. Sis moved to Bethany Manor in 2004 after suffering a stroke.
