Shirley Beth Tesdall was born April 26, 1923 to Willie and Isaphene (Dawson) Chalma in Jewell, Iowa. She graduated in 1941 from Randall High School. Shirley married Abel John Tesdall on September 20, 1941 in Seattle, Washington. He passed away on April 27, 2013. Shirley was a certified Parish Secretary at Bethesda Lutheran Church for many years.

Shirley passed away at 92 years of age on January 8, 2016 at Bethany Manor in Story City.

Shirley is survived by her children, Janis (John) Heeren of Jewell, Patricia (JR) Reynolds of Riverdale, Georgia, Greg (Ruthann) Tesdall of Kearney, Nebraska, Marian (Rich) Olive of Story City and Julie (David) Lutjen of Jewell; 10 grandchildren, Jeff (Jodi), Jay (Dena), Cj (Christine), Nicole (Chris), Michelle (Cory), Suzanne (Blair), Justin (Kelsey), Bryce (Paige), Jordan and Doran; 20 great-grandchildren, Tiffany (Josh), Amanda (Chris), Chelsea (Tyler), Ashely, Thomas, Cortney, Austin, Alyson, Cole, Jenna, Jacob, Madison, Ally, Samuel, Gavin, Drew, Kendal, Avary, Bridget, and Kellen; six great-great grandchildren, Emma, Hanna, Amree, Liam-(William), Libby-(Elizabeth) and Sadie Marie; and a sister, Doris (John) Brock of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Abel; and her sister, Marian.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name.

Giving in death as in life, Shirley donated her body to Des Moines University.
