....Died July 31st, at his mother's home one mile south of Colo, Mr. Thos. Black. The remains were buried Aug. 1st, under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity Rev. J. S. Throckmorton preaching the funeral sermon. Mr. Black's age was thirty-two years and one month. The accompanying resolutions, adopted by Columbia Lodge No. 292 A. F. & A. M., are the sentiments of whole community.
RESOLUTIONS.
WHEREAS--The Grand Master of the Universe, in his infinite wisdom has seen fit to call one worthy Bro. Thos. Black from labor to the degree of eternal reward, therefore,
Resolved,--That in the death of Bro. Black the country has lost a soldier of the regular army who gave five years of his best time to its service; the community, and upright and honorable citizen, the Masonic fraternity, a worthy and faithful brother, and an aged widowed mother, a dutiful and only son, the support and comfort of her declining years.
Resolved,--That we cherish his memory and that our lodge room be draped in mourning in honor of our deceased brother.
Resolved,--That these resolutions be recorded in the lodge records, and published in the REPRESENTATIVE and Story County Watchman, and a copy of the same presented to the bereaved mother.
