Obituary.

Sister Sarah Amanda Gifford, daughter of George and Sarah Fenn, was born April 22, 1832 in Niagara Co., N. Y. and was married to Wm. H. Gifford Feb. 23rd, 1851. Died March 7, 1890, aged 57 years 10 months and 15 days. She and her companion were among the early settlers of this community.

Sister Gifford has been an earnest christian worker. Wherever there was sickness of suffering, if it was so that she would lent a helping hand, she was there. I have frequently been impressed when she gave testimony, in hearing her use the following sentence: "Let my life be long or short, I expect to spend it in the service of the Lord." She gave her heart to the blessed Saviour about 34 years ago, and continued a consistent christian until the Master came and called her away. She was a member of the Presbyterian church until a little over one year ago when she united with the Evangelical church.

Rev. Isaiah Reid, who was her pastor a number of years, while the Presbyterian had a class here, delivered a very able and practical sermon, the writer assisting in the services. She was buried by the "Good Templars;" between 30 and 40 were here from the Cambridge lodge and a few from Nevada. In her death the family lost an affectionate wife and mother, the community a true friend, the I. O. G. T. a worthy member, the Missionary Society a good worker, and the church a noble christian. But our loss is her eternal gain. Although it was a stormy day, yet the church was filled aisles and all, and a number could not get inside.

MEMORIAL RESOLUTIONS.

WHEREAS: It has pleased the Supreme Ruler of the Universe to removed from our midst our dear, esteemed and worthy sister Mrs. Amanda Gifford and,

WHEREAS: It is best befitting that we as Good Templars testify our appreciation of her many virtues and untiring work in our Lodge and of our sorrow at the loss, therefore be it,

Resolved: That while we bow with submission to the will of our Heavenly Father, we feel no less keenly the severing of the earthly ties that bound her to us as a sister.

Resolved: That the memory of her faithfulness and integrity to the principles of our Order, will ever remain to prompt us to nobler deeds and higher aspirations.

Resolved: That we hereby extend to her bereaved husband, daughter and relatives our heartfelt sympathy in this their most sad bereavement.

Resolved: That these resolutions be spread upon the minutes of our Lodge and a copy of same be presented to the sorrowing family, and that a copy also be given to each of the following papers for publication: Maxwell Tribune, The Star, Nevada REPRESENTATIVE, Nevada Watchman.

WHEREAS, God in his mysterious providence had called from labor to reward our sister and fellow worker, Mrs. Sarah Amanda Gifford, therefore be it,

Resolved: That the Woman's Missionary Society has lost a ready and willing worker, and a still heavier loss is sustained by those nearest and dearest to her.

Resolved: That is our natural sorrow for the loss of a faithful and beloved sister, we find consolation in the belief that it is well with her for whom we mourn.

Resolved: That we deeply sympathize with he family of the deceased in this dispensation which it has pleased Divine Providence to affict them and commend the to Him who orders all thing for the best and whose chastisements are meant in mercy.

Resolved: That these resolutions be spread upon the records of the Society and a copy be transmitted to the family of our dear sister and the county papers, the Star and Missionary Messenger.

WHEREAS: It has pleased Almighty God to remove from our midst Sister Gifford therefore,

Resolved: That as classmates and members of the Iowa Center Sabbath school we bow submissively to the divine will,

Resolved: That is shall be our one aim in life to so live that we shall meet her in that land where parting is no more,

Resolved: That our heart felt sympathy is extended to the bereaved friends and that a copy of these resolutions be given them which in a measure express our interest in their welfare.

Resolved: That these resolutions be published in at least two of the county papers. IOWA CENTER S. S.

MEMORIAL SERVICE.

The Woman's Missionary Society will have a memorial service for Sister Amanda Gifford Sabbath evening, March 10th, 1890, at the Evangelical church to Iowa Center.
