Wm. R. Finley was born in Clarke county, Indiana, November 21, 1818, moved to Illinois in 1834 where he remained until 1865, when he came to Iowa and settled near Nevada where he lived until the time of his death. In 1847 he was married to Miss Eldana T. Johnson, of Rock Island county, Illinois. Twelve children were the fruit of this union, seven daughters and five sons. Five of the children are not living. Mr. Finley was a peaceable and industrious man very highly respected by all who knew him. His death occurred October 6th and the funeral services on the 8th were largely attended and conducted by Revs. Ferguson and Barr.
