From Nevada Representative August 1, 1888
Judge Miracle died Sunday at his home in Webster City and his funeral was held last evening. He was an early settler in Hamilton county and soon became one of its leading citizens. He was elected circuit judge in 1880 and was re-elected in 1884, and upon the reorganization of the judiciary in 1886 was elected district judge. In his work upon the bench he won a place in the esteem and respect of the district second to that of no other judge who has presided in it. He became afflicted some time during the past year with cancer, or abcess, of the stomach; and his ill health compelled his absence fro the bench during the spring circuit. Through the summer he got no better and about ten days before his death he lost hope and forwarded his resignation to the Governor.
A meeting of the Story county Bar was held at the Court House yesterday and the following resolutions were unanimously adopted:
WHEREAS it has pleased our wise Creator to remove by death the Hon. D. D. Miracle, for many years one of the judges of the 11th Judicial District, therefore
Resolved that is is with feelings of profound sorrow that we learn the sad intelligence that we realize in his death the loss of a friend, a learned and honest lawyer, a just, able and upright Judge, and patriotic citizen.
"That we sincerely deplore his untimely death and tender to his bereaved family our heartfelt sympathy and condolence in this sad hour of their affliction.
"That a copy of these resolutions be forwarded to the widow of the deceased and published in the papers of the county and spread upon the records of the Court."
Short and appropriate remarks were made by J. S. Frazier, J. L. Dana, T. C. McCall, G. W. Dyer and J. A. Fitchpatrick and each bore fitting testimony of the great worth and eminent qualities of Judge Miracle.
