From Nevada Representative September 19, 1888

W. T. Skiff died Thursday morning, Sept. 13, 1888, at the residence of Mrs. S. Blackman where he had been brought a day or two before so as to be more immediately under care of a physician. Mr. and Mrs. Skiff own a farm just north of town which they have occupied summers more or less for several years, from their Rockford, Ill. home. They came on in the early summer this year hoping that the change would improve Mr. Skiff's failing health; but the change was without the desired effect. Mr. Skiff was a faithful soldier in the war for the Union and his death was the result of disease contracted therein. He was an unassuming, but most estimable gentleman, and none knew him but to respect and esteem. His remains were escorted to the depot by a delegation of the Nevada G. A. R. Post whence they were taken by his widowed wife to Rockford for burial. The kindly sympathy of our people go out to Mrs. Skiff in this her day of bereavement.
