Obituary.
DIED:--At Monroe Wis., Sunday Oct. 10, Jacob Mason, aged 74 years, 6 months and 28 days. The deceased was born in Crawford county, Pa. March 12, 1812, was married Jan. 26, 1837, to Hannah Smith, who died Jan. 27, 1885, in her 71st year, removed to Monroe, Wis., in 1868, and settled in Grant Tp., where he lived until his home was broken up by the death of Mrs. Mason. He left four children, J. C., W. R., Mrs. J. T. McKibbon, of Monroe, Wis., and Mrs. J. W. Storm. Two others, a daughter, Jessie, and a son George, did before him. The only survivor of his father's family is his elder brother John, who is no a member of the Wisconsin legislature.
Squire Mason was one of the best men and most highly esteemed in Story county. He had a kindly word for everyone and was beloved by all around him. He received many public manifestations of the confidence of the community in which he lived. He served in 1868 as representative from Greene county in the Wisconsin legislature, and in Story county was rarely, if ever, without a township office. He was lifelong and consistent member of the Presbyterian church. He had gone to Wisconsin only two weeks before his death on account of the protracted and serious illness of his son-in-law, J. T. McKibbon, and his decease was a painful surprise in Story county. His body arrived on the eleven o'clock train yesterday. The funeral was conducted at the Presbyterian church by Rev. R. A. Ferguson, assisted by Rev. J. A. M. Ziegler, and he was laid to rest in the Nevada Cemetery.
