From Nevada Representative October 6, 1886

Died at his home in Nevada, Saturday Morning Oct. 2, 1886, Commodore Perry McCord, lacking only a few days of being 60 years of age. Mr. McCord, was borne in Clermont county, Ohio, Oct. 10, 1826. He came to Iowa in 1850, having stopped for a short time in Indiana, and settled in Des Moines Co. His marriage with Sarah E. Smith with whom he happily lived till his death, took place January 12, 1851. He took up his residence in Story county in the Autumn of 182. In 1862, Aug. 14th he enlisted in company K. 23d Reg. Iowa Infantry. May 17 1863 at the battle of Black River Bridge Miss. he was so severely wounded in his left leg as to necessitate its amputation. He was discharged for disability consequent upon his wound, Aug. 13 1863, having been in the service just one year. He was elected the first auditor of Story county in 1869 and served one term. His health has been in a critical condition for two or three years, and the wonder is that he retained his hold on life so long as he did.

As a citizen of the county for thirty-four years, as soldier of the Union, as an officer of the county, as husband, father and neighbor he has left an honorable record, and passes to his rest with the respect and esteem of all who knew him. His funeral services were very largely attended at Iowa Centre, Sunday Oct. 3d, being conducted by Rev. R. A. Ferguson. The burial services at the cemetery were impressively administered by the Nevada and Maxwell lodges of Odd Fellows, of which fraternity the deceased was a worth member. To the family of Mr. McCord in their bereavement the entire community extend sincere condolence.
