From Nevada Representative February 24, 1886

Died at the home of her son, Peter Hoffman, Sunday, February 21, 1886, Mrs. Elizabeth Hoffman, aged sixty nine years and six months.

Mrs. Hoffman was a native of New Jersey and was born Sept. 8th, 1817. Her maiden name was Shorts. She was married to A. P. Hoffman in 1835 and with her husband moved to Bureau county, Illinois in 1853, and thence, in 1871, to Story county, Iowa, where she has since resided. She united with the M. E. Church in 1856, and has honored her faith in her life. Her funeral was attended at the M. E. church in Nevada, yesterday afternoon, the Rev. Mr. Jeffrey conducting the services.

Mrs. Hoffman was quite widely and favorably known in the county, and all who have known her and been the recipients of her kindly offices, will long and pleasantly remember her. The immediate relatives of the deceased heave the sincere sympathy of the community in their bereavement.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Elizabeth (Shurts) Huffman was the daughter of Peter A. Shurts and Catherine Apgar. She was married to Abrahan P. Huffman. The names "Hoffman" and "Shorts" are misnomers.
