Obituary from Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Inc., Boone, Boone County, Iowa.
Zachary Monthei, age 27, of Slater, died on November 10, 2015. He has been cremated and a memorial service will be Monday, November 16, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at the Cornerstone Church, 56829 US Highway 30 in Ames, with Pastor Matt Yoder officiating.
Friends may call at the Church one hour before the service. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard.
Zachary Robert Monthei was born in Iowa City, Iowa, on November 10, 1988, the son of Roger and Stacey (Lester) Monthei.
He graduated from South Hamilton High School.
On June 20, 2008, Zach married his long time sweetheart, Krista, in Missouri.
Zach served active duty in Iraq with the Iowa Army National Guard from 2008-2009.
He was presently employed as a technician at Camp Dodge for the Iowa Army National Guard.
Zach is preceded in death by great grandparents Don and Marge Lester, Roy and Elsie Monthei, Dean and Gladys Stevens, and Albert and Ora Dozier, an uncle, Ronald Dean Lester, and a cousin, Darran Perkins.
He is survived by his wife Krista; his sons Tegan, Kayleb and Mason Monthei, all of Slater; his parents Roger and Stacey Monthei of Jewell; a brother Jesse Monthei of Iowa City; a sister McKayla Monthei of Iowa City; and grandparents Sheryle and Ronald Lester of Ogden and Bob and Marilyn Monthei of Jefferson.
Zach loved to spend the weekends with his wife and kids. He loved to watch football or basketball games, especially when ISU played.
He could fix anything if it wasn’t working. He was Krista’s “Mr. Fix It.”
Zach loved waking up on Saturdays and making big breakfasts. His favorite time after work every day was dinner time. He loved gathering around the table as a family.
Zachary loved all family get-togethers. Family was so important to him.
He loved camping and campfires. He loved to fish. He loved time with his friends.
Most of all, Zach loved doing things with his three boys and taking them places to do things or having them help him with stuff around the house like mowing the yard.
He loved spending time with his wife Krista.
Zach could make anyone laugh. His unconditional love and laughter will be missed greatly.
In memory of Zach, memorials may be directed to the family.
Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth & Marshall in Boone is in charge of arrangements.
