Dorothy (McCoy) Shearer Ochanpaugh
Homer Glen, IL, formerly of Ames, IA
Dorothy Shearer Ochanpaugh, 91, went to be with The Lord on Friday, October 23, 2015.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 29, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Ames with burial to follow in Ames Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Dorothy Lucille McCoy was born July 17, 1924 in Ames, IA to George and Lillie (Christiansen) McCoy. She grew up in Ames and graduated in the class of 1942 from Ames High School. Dorothy's career was working in the bookkeeping department at the Ames Tribune.
On December 25, 1945, Dorothy was untied in marriage to D. Howard Shearer. The couple made their home in Ames and were blessed with three children; Jodie, Jan, and Jeff. In 1972, Howard passed away, and Dorothy later met C. Dennis Ochanpaugh who she was married to until his death in 2005.
Dorothy was an avid bridge player, gardener, and enjoyed spending time with her dog, Peppy. Most of all, Dorothy cherished spending time with her family and friends.
Dorothy will be missed by her children, Jodie (Bud) Nidey of Crest Hill, IL, Jan Tegro of Ft. Collins, CO, and Jeff (Lin) Shearer of Alexandria, VA; three granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; one great-grandson; one great-great-grandson; and four stepchildren, Michael Ochanpaugh, Mark (Carla) Ochanpaugh, Bonnie (Brad) Juergens, and Jay Ochanpaugh. She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, D. Howard Shearer and C. Dennis Ochanpaugh; parents; one brother and one sister, one stepson, John (Patti) Ochanpaugh; and many dear friends.
Services are entrusted to Stevens Memorial Chapel and online condolences may be expressed at www.stevensmemorialchapel.com. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church building fund.
