--Brakeman Smith, of the Northwestern railway freight train No. 6 was run over and his ankle crushed, while coupling cars at Ontario Friday morning. His foot was amputated at Ames, but he died at 8:45. He was twenty-eight years old, lived at Belle Plaine and leaves a wife and two children. It was his first trip out. He stepped into a cattle guard.
