From Nevada Representative July 22, 1885

Story City.

....A ten year old son of R. Bonde* was drowned in skunk river Sunday afternoon. He tried to ford the river and was immediately swept away by the swift current. His body has not been recovered, although a constant search is being made for it by 40 or 50 men. Another child of the same family was nearly drowned in a R. R. culvert the same afternoon, but she recovered after about two hours work over her. This community sympathizes with the parents who deeply feel the sudden loss of their son....

One another page in the same issue of the paper:

Hans Bonde aged twelve years, was drowned while attempting to wade Skunk river near Story City Sunday. His body had not been recovered Monday. About the same time his younger sister fell through a railroad bridge over a slough, and very narrowly escaped drowning.

* This should be J. R. Bonde. Hans Bonde was the son Jens R. Bonde and Dorothea A. Hanson.
