From Nevada Representative February 4, 1885
The death of Mrs. S. R. Benson* has brought sorrow to her many friends and acquaintances in this part of Iowa. her recent removal from Nevada to the far West gave promise at first of restoration for health, but the seeds of disease were too deeply implanted to be eradicated, and Friday, Jan. 23d, 1885, she passed to the "Better Land." Mrs. Benson was a most estimable woman, a good wife and mother, a kindly neighbor, and an intelligent and helpful member of society. Her tastes were refined and her sympathies were with the elevated and better tendencies of life. Always religious in thought and deed, she made formal expression of her faith by uniting with the Christian Church by baptism a week before her decease. Indeed, in all the relations of life, she was most worthy person,
"None knew her but to love her,
None named her but to praise."She leaves a husband and two little sons to mourn her irreparable loss. To them the sincere condolence of this community is extended. She is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Lucinda (Griffith) Benson was the wife of Sidney R. Edgar Benson. She died leaving her husband and two sons, Lester S. and Charles W., surviving her.
