By request of the deceased a post mortem examination was held Thursday on the body of Henry Neff by Drs. Knepper, Alexander and Edgar. The case was a very peculiar one and of great interest to the medical profession. There was a great diversity of opinions as to the diagnosis of his disease. For the past five years he became gradually emaciated to flesh. He felt a peculiar sensation as though he was encircled by a cord tied very tight about his stomach. This was followed by a constant cough. The pulse gradually became slower until it ran down to thirty beats per minute, which condition lasted till he died. The case fell into the hands of Dr. [unreadable] for treatment two years ago [unreadable] pronounced it a cast of fatty degeneration of the heart, which was proved to be correct by the post mortem. The deceased was sixty-four years of age and had been one of the old settlers of this county....

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: According to his grave stone in the Day Cemetery, Rhodes, Marshall County, Iowa, Henry B. Neff was born 18 May 1818 and died 25 December 1884.
