From Nevada Representative October 24, 1883

W. A. Kline, who has been several times arrested for the murder of Mayor Stubbs at Polk City, was fatally shot by the brother-in-law, John Cool, near Clyde Saturday morning. Kline was eating his breakfast when Cool, with whom he had quarreled, came up behind him and shot him in the back. Cool then tried to shoot three or four other men who were in the room, but they got out; and Cool took to the woods. Cool has a son at Mt. Pleasant and is not of very sound mind himself.

....Another shooting affair in Jasper county occurred last Saturday morning. W. A. Kline and John Cool both living in the same house had had some trouble as to who should be peaceable possessor. But things were thought now by W. A. to be all right. Not so however, for last Saturday morning between 7 and 8 o'clock John Cool walked into the room where Kline and family, Thomas Downing and Manuel Kline were at the breakfast table. Cool walked up behind W. A. Kline and deliberately shot him, the ball passing through the Spinal column taking a downward course and hence inward. The Doctors think it lodged in his lung. After shooting W. A. he opened fire on Thomas Downing and Manuel Kline giving them a close call.

W. A. Kline is still alive at this writing but the chances are against his recovery. John Cool has been bound over to court.

From Nevada Representative October 31, 1883

Collins.

Kline, the man shot by Cool, died Monday the 22d of October from the effect of the wound and the coroner's jury returned a verdict accordingly....
