Died at Cambridge, the 30th September 1883, after a short but severe illness, George D. Southwick, Deceased was born in Cayuga county, New York, the 17th of January, 1822. At the age of 13, he removed from Cayuga county, N. Y., where he remained till the year 1839, when he came to Livingston county, N. Y., in 1848, the 12th of September he was united in marriage to Charlotte Robinson with whom he lived at the time of his death. Three children were born to them, two sons and one daughter, all of whom survive him--Merrit Southwick, of Sheldahl, A. W. Southwick, and Mrs. G. J. Wire of Cambridge. From New York in 1863 Mr. S. came to Illinois, where he remained about four years. From there in 1861 he came to Story county, Iowa. In the spring after his arrival in the county he located in Cambridge--where he remained until his death. In January of 1880 he was appointed Post Master at Cambridge, which office he held at his death. He gave good satisfaction as Post Master and conducted the office better, than, even it had been conducted before. The writer was intimately acquainted with the deceased from the time he came to Story county. He was an honorable, upright man in all his dealings, a kind hearted, and indulgent father. He will be much missed from our community.
