From Nevada Representative August 22, 1883

Mrs. Elizabeth Hedge of Toledo, Iowa, died in this city August 17th, 1883, aged 70 years, 5 months and 30 days.

Her maiden name was Cross. She was born in Exbridge, Mass. and removed to Ohio in 1817. She was united in marriage with David Mitchell in 1834 with whom she lived until his death in August, 1843. With her three surviving children from her first marriage she come to the Territory of Iowa in 1845. Two of these children still survive, Mr. J. C. Mitchell of this city and Mrs. R. B. Hanna of Wyoming, Iowa; Mrs. J. F. Gillespie having died in 1877 in this city.

In her second marriage she was united with Mr. Geo. E. Hedge from which union there was one son Mr. J. B. Hedge of Toledo, Iowa, Editor of the Toledo Chronicle. Both father and son were present at the funeral.

Two sister and one brother are all that are living of the home family of Mrs. Hedge. The two sisters were present. The deceased joined the Methodist Episcopal church in early youth and for more than a half century was a faithful member and an earnest Christian. A large congregation of sympathizing friends gathered at the home of Mr. J. C. Mitchell on Sabbath August 19th where appropriate funeral services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Thornbrue.

It was appropriate that they should sing as a closing hymn

"Servant of God, well done.
Thy glorious warfare's past;
The battle's fought, the race is won,
And thou art crowned at last."
