From Nevada Representative February 14, 1883
Last Wednesday, the boiler of a stationary engine at the mouth of the W. C. Shepard Coal Company's mine at Boone, exploded; blowing the small building in which it was located to fragments; killing the engineer, George Flemming, and Joseph James and John Johnson, two workmen. Flemming was an experienced engineer and had for some time been afraid of this boiler, and desirous of being relieved of its care. It had neither water gauge nor glass and was supplied with water by melting snow.
