From Stevens Memorial Chapel obituary, Ames, Story County, Iowa:

LaVila Jean Hatten, 88, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada, IA.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Stevens Memorial Chapel (607 28th Street, Ames, IA), interment in the Ames Municipal Cemetery will follow services.

Lavila was born October 15, 1926 in Boyd, Minnesota to Ola Mae (Cress) and Dr. Earl Elliot Cress, a country doctor. LaVila enrolled during WWII as a Cadet in the Nursing Corp, she studied at the University of Minnesota, receiving her RN Certification in 1947. LaVila was the head of the Preemie department at St. Luke's Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. She met and married Ralph William Hatten in 1949, they began their lives as a married couple in Duluth, Minnesota and started their Family. They were blessed with three boys Bill, Tom, and John. The family moved to St. Paul Minnesota and then settled in Ames, Iowa.

LaVila put her nursing career on hold so she could stay home and raise the boys, once the boys had graduated High School, she began working as a nurse for North Grand Care Center and the Northcrest Retirement Community. She worked as needed for Northcrest until the age of 82.

LaVila is survived by her children; Bill (Carla) Hatten of Ames, IA, Tom Hatten of Des Moines, IA, John Hatten of Alpharetta, GA, grandchildren; Heather (Jeff) Stickel of Des Moines, IA, Mark (Amber) Hatten of Ames, IA, Amy (Rick) Blaskovich of Des Moines, IA, great-grandchildren; Sunne and Shea Stickel, Harper Hatten, Brooklyn, Baylee, and Bella Blaskovich.

LaVila is preceded in death by her husband; Ralph William Hatten, sisters; Georgia "Peg" Thome of St. Paul, MN, Kay Payin of Houston, brother; Robert Cress of Madison, WI.
