Gwendolyn Annette Atkinson was born March 6, 1969 to Floyd A. and Donna J. Jones in Leavenworth, Kansas. She received a Masters Degree in Education at Iowa State University. Gwendolyn and Michael Atkinson were married September 4, 1993 at the Maple Street Baptist Church in Des Moines. She was a community worker that enjoyed helping others and caring for children.

Gwendolyn passed away at 46 years of age on October 8, 2015 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Gwendolyn is survived by her husband, Michael Atkinson of Ames; her children, Tyann of Ames; and Chayil, Alysha, Brice, Elijah, Reese, Ryly, and Kianna Atkinson, all of the home.

She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd A. Jones; and her brother-in-law, Nathan M. Atkinson.
