OBITUARY.

Wm. D. Gandrup

The announcement was made in the last week's issue of the death of Wm. D. Gandrup, which occurred Monday forenoon, January 18th, 1904, at his home in Story City. Mr. Gandrup ws born near Bergen, Norway, Dec. 7th, 1840. He received a good common school education, and in addition attended some private schools. He then entered the Kristiana University, and in 1864, graduated from the pharmaceutical department of that institution. He clerked in drug stores in Bergen and Kristiania, Norway, in Kopenhagen, Denmark, and in Stockholm, Sweden. In the latter city in 1865 he married Emilie Ekbom, who died about three years ago. In 1868 they came to Chicago, where, for four years, he was manager of a chemical factory. He then started in the drug business and in 1878 came to Story City, and has since lived here. He was a very competent pharmacist, an honorable and upright business man, and good citizen. Principle was more to him than gain, and he would do what he thought was right, even though he suffered from it. As a social entertainer he had few equals, and it was always a pleasure to meet him in his hospitable home. For years he has been the Danish vice-Consul, which position he held until his death. For 26 years he has been a permanent factor in the business and social life of Story City, always public spirited and progressive and he will be much missed by the people in that peat of the county where he was so well known. He leaves four children, three boys and one girl. The funeral services were held at St. Petri church last Thursday, and his remains were laid to rest in the Story City cemetery beside those of his wife and daughter.
