He ws sixty two years of age last December and has spent twenty one and one half years in the ministry. At the last annual M. E. conference his appointment was changed from Ankeny to Beaconfield. This winter he fell on the ice and injured his spine, from which he never recovered. He was in his pulpit but once after his fall. He was afflicted with hardening of the arteries before and the combination resulted in paralysis which caused his death. The body was accompanied to Boone by his sorrowing wife and son, Fred and wife of Des Moines. His sister, Mrs. Page of Oneil, Neb., a niece Mrs. Chapman and husband of Bagley, Mrs. Chapman's cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Owen of Toledo joined them at Ames. Funeral services were held in the First M. E. church at Bagley. Six M. E. ministers were present including Rev. A. A. Thompson, Supt. of Boone District; Rev. Stevenson, an old time friend, delivered the sermon. Rev. Holmes of Lenox gave fitting tribute to the deceased; Rev. Turessen of Boone made the closing prayer. The Boone order of A. F. and A. M., of which he ws a member, had charge of the services at the grave. Mr. G. V. Granger and four members of the Colo M. W. A., of which he was a member, O. O. Talbott, Dr. J. I. Hostetter, C. B. Wilson and E. G. Schoonover of Colo were in attendance at the funeral. Rev. Caldwell was pastor of the M. E. churches at Colo and Johnson's Grove from September 1899 to September 1903.
