Ilo Arlene Lande died September 3, 2015 at Madrid Home in Madrid, Iowa. A gathering of friends and family will be 5:00- 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 7, 2015 at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, in Ames. A celebration of life funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the Madrid Home with burial to follow at Fjeldberg Cemetery in Huxley.
Arlene was born November 15, 1921 to Milton and

Aletta Hill near Huxley, Iowa. She was baptized by Pastor Peter Buland.

They moved to a farm near Slater, Iowa where she attended Sunday School until 4th grade, when she lost her father in an accident. They moved to Huxley living with her grandparents for three to four years during the Depression. She then attended the Lincoln Sunday School until 7th grade until moving to a farm near White Oak where she attended White Oak School and joined the Palestine Church. She was confirmed by Pastor Buland December 8, 1935.

When she was in the 10th grade, they purchased a farm north of Huxley and she attended the Huxley school graduating in 1939. She worked in Ames and September 11, 1940 she married George Lande, and purchased a farm south of Huxley. She worked side by side with her husband. To this union three children were born; Gary Allen, Gloria Anne, and Dean Albert. On December 24, 1994 they purchased a home in Huxley and 10 months later George passed away.

Arlene resided in Huxley until July 30, 2012 when she had a valve replaced and entered Madrid Nursing Home for recuperation. She returned to her home in Huxley August 29, 2012 until another hospital visit and a fall at home resulted in a pacemaker inserted and Madrid Home again for a while. She then moved to Cedars in Madrid until a hemorrhage to the brain resulted in going back to Madrid Home, where she resided until her death.

Arlene loved geneology, bible study, cards, quilting, bingo, making Kringla and spending time with her family and friends. She is a member of Fjeldberg Lutheran Church, quilters group, historical society, and various card clubs.

She is survived by her children Dean (Diane) Lande and Gloria (Ernie) Wilkening and one deceased son Gary (Judy) Lande; six grandchildren, Wanda (Tim) Mortvedt, Greg (Jana) Lande, Doug (Rachele) Lande, Janelle (Steve) Fitzwater, Chris (Cindy) Wilkening, Craig (Anita) Wilkening; 14 great-grandchildren, Ryan (Kayla) Cable, Tyler Mortvedt, Brooke Mortvedt, Kandace (Patrick) Lant, Matt Fitzwater, Katie (Josh) LeMaster, Jacob Wilkening, Mitchell and Marshall Wilkening, Nicolas, Logan and Hattie Lande, Amy (Jeremy) Carr, and Michelle Lande; 5 great-great-grandchildren, Haydon Carr, Kennedi and Madeline Cable, Londyn Anderson, and Casen Tucker.

Preceding her in death: her husband George, father Milton Hill, mother Aletta Wee, stepfather Newtie Wee, brother Herbert Hill, and son Gary.

Memorials may be directed to the Madrid Home or the Fjeldberg Church.
