From Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care obituary, Ames, Story County, Iowa:

Janette "Jan" Hildebrand, age 85, formerly of Ames, died August 23, 2015 at Bethany Manor in Story City, Iowa. Gathering of family and friends will be held Friday, August 28, 2015 from 4-6pm at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames, Iowa. Celebration of life memorial services will be Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Collegiate Presbyterian Church, 159 Sheldon Ave, Ames, Iowa, of which she was a member. Burial will be at a private family service in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Mrs. Hildebrand was born in York, Nebraska, November 2, 1929, the daughter of F. A. Johnson and Adelia Sandall Johnson. She graduated with distinction from the Teachers College of the University of Nebraska in 1951 specializing in Early Childhood Education.

She married Robert L. Hildebrand, February 4, 1951 in York, Nebraska where they made their home for the next ten years. In 1960, she moved with her family to Ames where she continued to be a homemaker.

In 1977, she became a teacher in the Ames Community Schools, teaching at Meeker and Mitchell Schools until her retirement in 1993. Where she taught Kindergarten and 1st grade and set a lot of little minds down the path of learning.

She was a member and past president of Chapter KC, P.E.O. She also served on the P.E.O. Reciprocity Board for a number of years.

Jan was a 50 year member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and a House Board member of the Iowa State Chapter, Delta Nu. She was a charter member of the Oakes Ames Questers and enjoyed her association with that antique group.

A member of the Collegiate Presbyterian Church, she sang in the choir for a number of years.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Hildebrand of 64 years and their four children: one daughter, Mary Hildebrand of Harrisonburg, VA, and three sons; Thomas B. of Sioux City, IA; David A. (Marilyn) of Sammimish, WA; Bradley D. (Marcia) of Plymouth, MN and nine beloved grandchildren; Sara, Melanie, Annie, Brian, Emily, Amy, Kate, Isaac, and Scott. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Northcrest Foundation.
