Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Leonard E. Anderson was born on January 13, 1931 to Francis and Margaret (Clapp) Anderson in Guthrie Center, Iowa. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served during the Korean Conflict. Leonard married Sara Berchtold on August 8, 1954. He lived most of his life in the Roland and Story City area working as a truck driver, a police officer in Roland from 1960 to 1972, and for many years as a school bus driver for the Roland-Story Community School District. He loved sharing wisdom with young people and being around school kids.

Leonard was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Roland American Legion. He enjoyed birds, politics, traveling, and inventing - he has two patents to his name. Leonard very much loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Leonard had battled cancer since 2012. On May 18 of this year, he fell and broke his hip. His rehabilitation was first at Mary Greeley and then at Bethany Life. On May 30, he came back home with his wife and family taking care of him. Hospice care was provided from Care Initiatives Hospice beginning on August 3.

Leonard passed away at 84 years of age on August 15, 2015 at his home in Story City.

Leonard is remembered by his wife of 61 years, Sara Anderson of Story City; his four sons, David (Cindy) Anderson of Stratford, Ben (Darla) Anderson of Roland, Tim (Barb) Anderson of Clayton, OH and Bob (Sherry) Anderson of Carroll; his two daughters, Marian (Mark) Klinger of Roland and Tina (Steve) Mimnaugh of Ames; a son, Lenny Hapes from a previous marriage; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elsie Spade of Ames and Betty Wiese of Nevada; and his sister-in-law, Lois Anderson of Ames.
