"DEATH SUMMONS MRS. HALVOR HOLLAND

Mrs. Halvor Holland passed away at her home in Roland last Friday after only a few days of illness, surrounded by her children, who now mourn the loss of a dear one.

Ellen Ovesdatter Flogstad was born in Saude, Ryfylke, Norway, July 30, 1841, being a daughter of Ove and Britha Flogstad. She grew to womanhood in the land of her birth and in 1863 was married to Halvor Holland, to which union was born ten children. Two of the children passed away in infancy, and two passed away in this country, Ole H. Holland of near this place in 1917, and Mrs. Bertha Johnson of Omaha, Neb., in 1896. The surviving children are Ove Holland, Radclife; Mrs. K.J. Orthun, Roland; Mrs. L. Selvig, Radcliffe; Mrs. F.C. Rogers, Newton; John H. Holland, Odin, Minn., and Miss Berthine Holland, who has taken care of her mother for several years. All the surviving children were present at the bedside, when the final summons came, except John Holland, who did not arrive till the day of the funeral. Besides her children, Mrs. Holland leaves thirty-four grand-children and twenty-two great-grand-children and numerous other relatives.

In 1896, Mr. and Mrs. Holland came to this country, so as to make their home near their children, living the first year at the home of their son, Ove Holland, after which they erected a home in Roland, where they have since resided. Mr. Holland, passed into the Great Beyond in 1909.

Mrs. Holland was a kind and loving woman, being very much devoted to her family, and never grew tired in doing something for them, and they and her neighbors were frequent visitors at her home. Her happiest moments were when she read or heard the true gospel of her Redeemer and if ever there was a true Christian, the deceased was undoubtedly one of them. She attended church services and ladies aid society as long as her strength permitted. Her influence and example will long be felt by those with whom she came in contact.

The past few years, she has been rather poorly, but was able to be up and around her home until the last week before her death, when she began to sink, until the final summons came for her reward on Friday evening, July 11, 1919, being at her death 77 years, 11 months and 11 days old.

The funeral was held from Bergen church last Monday afternoon, her pastor, Rev. G. Smedal, speaking the comforting words to the sorrowing ones, who had assembled to pay their respects to the departed one. Interment took place in the Roland cemetery.

Thompson, Story CIty; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Holland, Radcliffe; Mr. and Mrs. Chester Christiansen, Story City; Mrs. O.L. Henderson, Story City; Jacob Vangness, Story City; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Henderson, Owasa; Mrs. L.H. Henderson, Osage; Mrs. Lars Skeie, Randall; Oscar Vangness, Randall; and Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Christian, McCallsburg; Paul Holland and family, Radcliffe; and Mesdames, Wenson and Stenson of Story City."
