From Nevada Representative February 20, 1917

MRS. H. S. CONVERSE

Mrs. Della Converse, widow of the late H. S. Converse, died on Friday last at her home in Alva, Oklahoma, after a brief illness with grippe and pneumonia. Her body was accompanied to Nevada by her son Herbert and daughter Miss Jessie, and the funeral was conducted here from the Methodist church by Rev. McDade on Monday afternoon. The interment was in the Nevada cemetery, where Mr. Converse was buried nearly a dozen years ago.

Della Cleveland was born September 7, 1851, in New York state and died as stated at Alva, Oklahoma February 16, 1917, aged 66 years, 5 months and 9 days. She grew up in New York to young ladyhood and then at the age of seventeen accompanied her brothers to the vicinity of Colo, where they lived on a farm and where she was married in January 1875 to Herbert S. Converse. They lived south of Colo until 1892, when they moved to Nevada, and from this city they removed to Okeene, Oklahoma, in 1901. Mr. Converse died at Okeene in 1905, and shortly thereafter Mrs. Converse moved the family home to the neighboring town of Alva, where she has since resided, though making occasional visits back to Nevada, the last of such visits being on the sad occasion of the death of her daughter, Ida, Mrs. W. C. Johnson, in April of last year. Mrs. Converse is survived by her other daughter Miss Jessie, and by her sons Herbert of Okeene, Ray of Carmen in Oklahoma, Glenn of Lamar, Colorado, and Harold of Wichita, Kansas.

Mrs. Converse was a woman very greatly esteemed in this community in the years of her residence here, and in the years since her removal she had kept in rather closer touch with people here than is usually the care with people so long and so far removed. The news of her death is received here with very great regret.
