Mary Ann Hostetter was born Nov. 16, 1874 to Joseph and Sara Grove of Secore, Ill. A short time later the family moved to Denver, Colo. where she attended the public schools. As a young woman she united with the Christian church, where she was always a very active worker until her injuries prevented her from attending the services.

On Dec. 23, 1897 Mary Grove was united in marriage to George Hostetter at Paola, Kan. Soon afterward they moved to El Paso, Ill. where they made their home until they came to Story County, Iowa, in 1907.

One son and three daughters were born to this home and it was for their welfare that their mother devoted her life and her work.

Besides activities in the church, Mary Hostetter was also interested in school and community activities. For several years she was a active member of the R. E. K. and Social Hour Clubs.

After several years as a semi-invalid she quietly passed away on Friday the 5th of September, 1958. Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother Charles and her husband George, who died in 1937. Also preceding her was a granddaughter who had been honored with her name, Mary Ann Blomquist.

Surviving are four children, Fern Norton of Ames, Clyde Hostetter of Nevada; Ruth Blomquist of Racine, Wis.; and Margaret Hubbard of Hubbard, Iowa. Also ten grandchildren and four great grandchilden, other relatives and many friends.
