Patricia Mathison of Ames, Iowa, passed away May 3, 2015, at Northcrest Retirement Community. A visitation will be held at Grandon Funeral Home on Thursday, May 7, from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. On Friday, May 8, there will be a celebration of life service at Christ Community Church at 1:30 pm, followed by a time of fellowship.
Patricia was born in Seattle, Washington, on April 17, 1924, the daughter of Dr. Raymond and Margaret (Hickman) Jeffery. She graduated from Beverly Hills High School in California in 1942 and attended Iowa State University where she met Richard K. Mathison. They were married March 18, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois. Richard left soon thereafter to serve as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater. Pat waited with her parents in California until after the war, when the couple made their home in Ames and began life together.
Pat had many interests and talents, but her most lasting impact is the strong family relationships she nurtured in her role as a wife and mother. She was a member of Christ Community Church. Pat had a deep faith in God that she shared throughout her life by service to her church and the community. She continued to plant seeds of faith in those that met her and cared for her during her years at Northcrest.
Patricia is survived by two sons, John (Jane) of Ames, and Mark (Rebecca) of Noblesville, IN; grandchildren Randall (Christina) Mathison of Columbus, OH, Margaret Mathison of Milwaukee, WI, Scott (Amy) Mathison of Carmel, IN, Jeffery (Tracy)Mathison of Chicago, IL, and Sally (Frederick) Holt of Fishers, IN; and 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister,Elizabeth Freeman, and her brother, Thomas Jeffery, both in California, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998 and by her parents.
