Obituary for Ruth S. Williams

Ruth Selma Marie (Trulin) Williams was born December 9, 1913 in De Soto, Iowa. When Ruth was very young, she and her family moved to Boone, Iowa where her dad worked for S. Hanson Lumber and then later owned a general store. Ruth graduated from Boone High School in 1932. During her high school years, her brother Paul introduced her to Robert H. Williams and they fell in love and were married for 67 years. Ruth and Bob lived in Ames, Iowa where Bob owned a local shoe repair shop on Grand Avenue for many years.

Ruth’s pride and joy came in the form of her three children, Janet, Joe and Jim. Ruth always enjoyed having friends and family over for coffee and kringlas or some other sweet treat she had baked! Special family dinners were started with Ruth saying grace in Swedish, which the family always loved. Ruth and Bob loved gardening and taking good care of their home inside and out. Ruth was still raking up leaves until she went into assisted living, at the age of 92, when she moved to Spencer, Iowa.

Ruth will always be remembered for being kind, funny, and great at making friends. Ruth loved knitting and making any craft project she picked up or set her mind to do. She was still doing crafts and decorating Christmas cookies while living at St. Luke’s Nursing Home in Spencer. Ruth’s loving and sweet nature always came through in the special touch she had with young children.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Janet Boyd, of Spencer, Iowa; her son, Jim Williams, of Tacoma, Washington; her daughter-in-law, Andie Williams, of Lakeville, Connecticut; her granddaughters and their husbands, Kathy (Tom) Lee, of Denver, Iowa and Kelly (Jim) Berling, of Mason, Ohio; her grandsons and their wives, Josh (Tanielia) Williams, of Treasure Beach, St Elizabeth, Jamaica W.I., Charlie (Cherie) Williams, of Iowa City, Iowa and Ben Williams, of Brooklyn, New York; her great-grandchildren, Rachel and Blake Berling, of Mason, Ohio; and many dear Trulin nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, John and Selma Trulin; her siblings, Paul, Kermit and Pearl; her husband, Robert H. Williams; her son, Joe Williams; and the four legged friends she spoiled and adored, Peggy, Daisy and JJ.
