Obituary from Memorial Services of Iowa, Ankeny, Polk County, Iowa:

Virginia Ann (Hildreth) Wheeler, 90, of Ames passed away January 17, 2015.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m., January 24, 2015 at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd)

Virginia was born July 11, 1924 in rural Polk County to Rufa and Grace Hildreth. She graduated from Ankeny High School in 1942, and she was "secretly" married to Charles Wheeler in 1941. The marriage lasted for 57 years, until Charles passed away in 1998.
Together, they had 3 boys that they raised in Ankeny and Ames.

After moving to Ames in 1961, Virginia was the bookkeeper for the family business C & M Excavating. She later went to work for Iowa State University, in the computer science lab.

Virginia enjoyed spending her summers at Lake Washburn, MN. She also enjoyed needlework, crafts, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her 3 sons, David (Marilyn), Jon, and Mark (Audrey); 5 grandchildren, Angela, Laurie, Tisha, Samantha, and Katie; 6 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; a brother Harold Hildreth, and many nieces and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles, 2 brothers and 1 sister.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lake Washburn Association in Minnesota.
