Obituary from Memorial Services of Iowa, Ankeny, Polk County, Iowa:

Shelly Kay Hagenmaier, 55, of Huxley, passed away July 10, 2013, at home from cancer surrounded by her beloved family. A celebration of her life will be held 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, July 13 at Memorial Services of Iowa Funeral Home (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd.)

Shelly was born May 2, 1958 to Marvin and Roberta Edson in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She married Mark Haffner with whom she had her beloved children, Luke and Rhiannon. She met her loving husband, Fred Hagenmaier in 1986 with whom she shared many travels, flowers and love for 26 years.

An excellent typist, Shelly took pride in her secretarial skills. A people person, she was always quick with a joke, fun story or humorous anecdotes.

She loved to travel and relished the many trips she made on her own, especially to Time Square and Europe. But she most treasured the trips she took with Fred. Jamaica and Hawaii were two very memorable places that she spoke of often. She loved mid-day lunches catching up with friends.

In 2010, Shelly graduated from Des Moines Area Community College with an Associated Arts degree. She relished learning and loved how her coursework led to her meeting many wonderful people who positively colored her life as she researched topics that were dear to her.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ardith Harrison Elston and Ruth and Roy Edson. She is survived by her beloved husband, Fred Hagenmaier, her children, Luke (Roxanne) Haffner and Rhiannon (Scot) Osborne, four grandchildren, her parents, Marvin and Roberta Edson, siblings Rebecca (Monte) Berg, Amy Edson and Jake (Sarah) Edson and several nieces and nephews.
