Obituary from Foster Funeral and Cremation, Webster City, Hamilton County, Iowa:

Gary Woolery, 81, of Ames died Thursday March 12, 2015 at the Riverside North Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center with Pastor Kim Wills, officiating. Burial to follow at the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gary LaVerne Woolery, son of Claude and Marian (Schnell) Woolery, was born September 23, 1933 in Webster City. He attended Webster City schools. He enlisted in the Iowa National Guard serving almost 10 years. On February 14, 1953 he was united in marriage to Lois Dornath at St. Paul's Lutheran in Fort Dodge. The couple resided in Webster City where Gary worked for Beam Industries, Brehn's, Nissen's, and Frigidaire. In 2011 the couple moved to Ames.

He is survived by his wife, Lois of Ames; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Lorraine Woolery of Ames; grandchildren, Hannah Woolery and Dana Woolery both of Ames. Gary was preceded in death by his parents.

Gary was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Webster City and served on many committees. He helped form the UAW with an organized shut down and walk out at Beam Industry, belonged to the meat cutters union, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan.
