OBITUARY

Samuel J. Mills Jr.

Samuel J. Mills, Jr., whose name is linked with early times in this community, died last week at Chicago and was buried at Clinton in this state. He was the eldest son of Rev. Samuel J. Mills, who lived here in the '70s and died here in the early '80s, and the family were long prominent here. His own residence here, however, was not in connection with the family, he having come here before they did as operator and station agent for the Chicago & North western railroad in the days when that railroad was new. Whether his promotions came before or after the family moved here we cannot say; but it was a visitor to the home folks that the most of the people here who knew him in after years had met him. His promotions more over were many and was at one time superintendent of the Northwestern lines in Iowa. Indeed he remained with that railroad all the years of his active life, and it was the old Iowa headquarters of that road at Clinton that was his permanent home. He was a man of marked ability and character, whom friends in Nevada were always glad to greet, his last visit here having been at the burial of his mother, Mrs. Sarah A. Mills a year ago last May.
