From Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care obituary, Ames, Story County, Iowa:

Vicky (Burris) Thorp, age 69, of Ames passed away peacefully on December 27th at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A Celebration of Life visitation with family will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 pm on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way in Ames. A short prayer service will be held at 2:00 pm.

Vicky was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on June 26, 1945 - the daughter of Merlyn and Virginia (McVicker) Burris. She graduated from East Marshall (LDF) High School in 1963. She married Ronald Thorp on December 14, 1963 at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple moved to Ames in 1967, then to Gilbert in 1974 where they raised their two daughters, Jamie and Jennifer. They returned to Ames in 2004. Vicky worked in the business office at McFarland Clinic for 23 years, and retired from there in 2012.

Vicky was a longtime member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority in both Gilbert and Marshalltown and enjoyed being with her "sisters". Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends - whether it was shopping, vacationing, or attending her grandkids activities.

Vicky is survived by her husband, Ronald Thorp of Ames; her daughter, Jennifer (Rick) Hindman and children David, Destiny, and Haydan of Johnston; son-in-law, Eldon Whitaker of Colo; brother, David (Karlene) Burris of Rapid City, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vicky was preceded in death by her daughter, Jamie Lee Whitaker, on October 24, 2014, as well as her parents, Virginia and Merlyn Burris.

Memorials may be directed to the family at this time. Contributions will be made in Vicky's name to support medical research on Inclusion Body Myocitis (IBM) and Sjogren's Syndrome. Both of these conditions impacted Vicky's life over the last 25+ years.
