Phyllis Lorraine (Winters) Yocum
June 4, 1939 – Feb. 8, 2015

Phyllis Lorraine (Winters) Yocum, 75, of Zearing, passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, at her home surrounded by loved ones. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 11th at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Zearing followed by a Rosary at 8:00p.m. Funeral mass will be Thursday, Feb.12 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church with Father Rick Dagit officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, St. Anthony.

Phyllis was born June 4, 1939 to Raymond and Marcenia Winters, one of seven children. Phyllis grew up and attended school in Marshalltown, IA. While roller-skating, also in Marshalltown, she met the love of her life, Chuck. They were united in marriage Aug. 20, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marshalltown. They began their married life in Milwaukee, WI. After 1 ½ years they moved to Zearing where they raised their family.

Phyllis was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family, attending many sporting events and activities of her children and grandchildren. She will be forever remembered as a wonderful cook and the best pie baker. Over the years, she enjoyed gardening, yard work, horseback riding, bowling, and ceramics.

After her children were grown, Phyllis found great enjoyment working as a C.N.A. at Colonial Manor in Zearing, for 20 years, where she shared her caregiving skills and fun spirit with so many others.

Phyllis is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Charles, of Zearing; her children Dianne (Randy) Brinkmeyer of Radcliffe, Laurie (Steve) Lybarger of Story City and Mark (Miriam) Yocum of Johnston; 11 Grandchildren, Bambi (Mike) Cerka, Keith (Sarah) Olson, Megan (Jon) Jacobson, Jamie Olson, Cody (Alysia) Olson, Lee Yocum, Abby (Michael) Moeller, Connor Yocum, Courtney Brinkmeyer (Jeremy Oxley), Erin Yocum and Taylor Olson; and 7 Great-Grandchildren, Payton, Grace, Macey, Nellie, Liam, Harper and Alexis.

She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Donald, 5 sisters, one brother, a brother- in- law and a sister-in-law.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Heartland Adult Day Center. Fredregill Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
