Vada Bell Phares, 90, of Colo, passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada.

Vada was born October 10, 1924, in Malcom, Iowa to Chess and Dessie (Russell) Bell. She graduated from Newton High School and received her teaching certificate from Drake University. She taught school for many years before working at Donnelly’s where she retired. On December 30, 1944, she was united in marriage to Harry A. Phares in Newton. Vada was a member of the Collins United Methodist Church where she taught Adult Sunday School and a member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing cards, collecting antiques and loved being with her family.

Vada is survived by her son, Ron Phares of Colo; her grandchildren, Tara (Nick) Marler, Kelsie (Carl) Fisher and Chad Phares; two great-grandchildren, Mason and Ethan Marler; and her sister, Bea (Cecil) Ogburn. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter-in-law, Teresa Phares; and two brothers, Arnold and Earl Bell.

Visitation will be 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 24, with a prayer service at 11:30 a.m. at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Graveside services will immediately follow at Colo Cemetery in Colo.
