Phillip D Squibb
August 8, 1952 - November 8, 2014Phillip D. Squibb, 62, of Ames, Iowa, passed away at his home on November 8, 2014. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 11 at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. November 12 at Cornerstone Church of Ames.
Phillip Doyle Squibb was born August 8, 1952 to Doyle and Eva (Ault) Squibb in Jefferson, Iowa. Phillip grew up in Scranton and graduated from Scranton Consolidated High School in 1970. He attended the Iowa Police Academy and began his work as a police officer for the Carroll Police department in 1974 and became a Sergeant in 1993. He retired in 1999, but never lost his passion for law enforcement. In 1983, he trained to become a locksmith and eventually opened Carroll Lock & Safe, which he still operated up until his passing.
On July 15, 1972, he married his high school sweetheart, Victoria Kay Wright, in Scranton. His lasting passion was his beautiful, caring wife and their love of each other was a testament to the power of love. Being told they would never be able to have children, they were surprised to welcome a child, Virginia Jenny Eva Squibb, into the world in May of 1974. Although he had a small family, many have called him dad, uncle, grandpa and brother.
He served in many service organizations which included Kiwanis, Food at First, Hospice of Iowa, Habitat for Humanity and many personal charitable endeavors. He was highly involved in serving the church in any capacity that was needed. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, servant hood and selflessness in the many who benefited from his life.
Phillip is survived by his wife, Victoria Squibb; their daughter, Jenny; his son-in-law, Tom Sharp, of Pella; his sister, Teresa and her husband Bruce Durlham, of Grand Junction; and his grandchildren, Samuel and Seth, who call him Poppy.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother and his brothers Ron and Doug.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cornerstone Church.
