From Stevens Memorial Chapel obituary, Ames, Story County, Iowa:

Patricia (Patty) Rua of Ames passed away Monday Sept. 29th 2014.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday Oct 3rd at 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church , 2900 Hoover Ave, Ames IA. 50010. A Visitation will be held Thursday Oct. 2nd at 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a vigil at 6:30 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church.

Patricia (Patty) Payer Rua was born April 4, 1925 in Fargo, North Dakota to Roy and Catherine (Sullivan) Payer. She attended St. Peter's Elementary and South West High School in Kansas City, MO. Patty was a graduate of Kansas State University in 1945 with a degree in Dietetics and Institutional Management. Following her graduation she became an Associate Professor at the University of Kansas Medical Center and worked as a Pediatric Dietitian at the University Of Kansas Medical Center. She worked in the field of Dietetics for 43 years and during that time she held the position of the Head of the Dietetic Services at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames Iowa. She enjoyed camping and travel and cherished times with family and friends.

Patty was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames and held the position of Chair of the Social Concerns Committee. Patty was also a member of the Ames Women's Club.

Patty was preceded in death by her husband Orlando (Joe) Rua, son Steve Ernest, and parents Roy and Catherine (Sullivan) Payer.
Patty is survived by daughter Catherine "Cay" (Brad) Sills of Evansville, WI. and son John Ernest of Riverdale, Utah and daughter-in-law Susan Callison of Urbandale, IA. grandchildren Justin (Megan) Sills, John Ernest, Kelly (Nick) Kopp, Kyle Ernest and Levi Ernest, great grandchildren Ella, Kaitlyn and Megan Kopp, her brother Don (Jan) Payer, a niece Chris (Payer) Hunziker and a nephew Patrick Payer.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Ames Emergency Residence Project or St. Cecilia Good Samaritan Fund.
