Obituary from Flamm Funeral Home, Rexburg, Idaho:
Donald Ingram Glider, Beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend passed away on August 22, 2014 in Rexburg, Idaho. He was born April 27, 1938 in Des Moines, IA, the son of Jack Morgan and Inga CeCelia Glider. Jack was the son of Harry Alfred and Lora Morgan Glider. Inga was the daughter of Ole Herbert and Johanna Serina Egenes of Story City, IA.
Donald attended East High School in Des Moines, IA, where he earned scholarships in both art and football. One of Dad’s favorite moments came when the President of the United States stopped the parade in front of East High to talk to Dad and asked him what the school motto was? Dad told him “East High against the World.” President Eisenhower wished him success in his schooling and life! Dad loved to talked to everyone he encountered.
He knew Des Moines like the back of his hand. He retired from John Deere after 30+ years of service. After his retirement he then cared for his mother Inga and his Uncle Hub, in Story City, IA. They lived in the family home that Ole Egenes built in 1889 at 303 Elm. Dad enjoyed working on his art/ woodworking and his apple orchard.
Dad had a strong testimony and love for his Savior. He loved giving counsel to his two boys. He loved doing genealogy work and spent countless hours doing so often traveling to Wellman, IA. where three generations of Gliders are buried. He left a legacy of kindness often giving his personal belongings to those in need. He will be missed by all who had the blessing to know him.
Donald is survived by his children, Keven Ray(Ruth) Glider of Rexburg, ID. and Trae Rex Daniel Glider of Colorado Springs, CO. Donald’s grandchildren Jacob Keven (Krysta) Glider, Kolten Don Glider, Krista CeCelia Glider and Dylan Jack Glider, all of Rexburg, ID, his sister Delores Henrietta Bales who resides in Brunswick, ME. her children, Marcia MarDean (PJ) Quinn who reside in Elizabeth City, N.C. and 3 sons, Deborah Lea Masse of Brunswick, ME. with her 2 daughters and 1 son, his brother, Harry Dwight(Betty) Glider of Mesa, AZ, and their children, Piper (Dave) Merrill of Polk City, IA. and family, Brian Dwight(Sherri) Glider of Des Moines, IA., and family, as well as cousin, Bobbie (Glider) Curry and family of Acme, WA. Carol (Jerry) Cooper of Urbandale, IA. and family, and Barry Alfred Glider of Lovelock, NV. and family, and many cousins from Story City, IA.
He is preceded in death by his grand parents, parents, a sister, Joan CeCelia, and uncles Robert “Bob” Raymond Glider and Norman Rex Glider, and a nephew Richard Duane Bales.
Memorial services will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, September 29th at the Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.
