Jim Wayne West, 72, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa, Sunday, September 7, 2014.

Jim was born June 6, 1942 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of William J. and Lela May (Randolph) West. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1960. After High School, Jim served in the Army. Jim was united in marriage to Linda Kay on August 10, 1963 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He was a carpenter and had worked at Sivyer Steel in Bettendorf for 32 years. He retired in 1996. As a young man, Jim was a Boy Scout and earned the Eagle Scout Award. Jim enjoyed wood carving and square dancing.

Jim is survived by his wife, Linda, of Bettendorf, Iowa; two sons: Brian (Laura) West of Nevada, Iowa, Gary (Misty) West of Port Byron, Illinois; six grandchildren: Amanda West of Fort Madison, Iowa, Ashley West of Bowling Green, Missouri, Cody West of Fort Madison, Iowa, Allison West, Jackson West, and Michael West, all from Nevada, Iowa; two great-grandchildren: Presleigh and Reid; one brother: William (Kaye) West of Bettendorf, Iowa; and one sister: JoAnn (Bud) Connor of Creston, Iowa.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents.

Private family Memorial Services will be held at a later date.

The Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is handling the arrangements.
