"Mrs. Stevens Laid to Rest Friday"
Britha Stevens, wife of Ben Stevens of this place, was born at Asheim, Sogn, Norway, Aug. 24, 1854, her parents being Lasse and Randi Brudos. She came to America as a young girl and later married Hans Monsen near Webster City. To this union five children were born.

Her first husband died in 1892 and several years later she was married to Ben Stevens at Stanhope, who with the five children survives her. The family moved to Story City in 1902 and this has been their home ever since.

For a number of months she failed in health, having been stricken with pernicious anemia, and since mid-summer has been confined to her bed. The loving hands of her husband and children ministered to her in every way that was humanly possible. She loved her family dearly and expressed the earnest wish that she might meet them all in the better land, to which she was so glad to go herself.

She died Oct. 23, at 1:30 a.m., having reached the age of 75 years, 1 month, and 29 days. There are left to mourn her departure her husband and the children: Mrs. Ben Gaard and Lew Monsen of Story City, Martin Monsen of Downers Grove, Ill.; Mrs. Grover Chenoweth of Des Moines; Mrs. O. C. Stevens of Osh Kosh, Wis.; her stepdaughter, Mrs. J. Torvestad of North Hollywood, Cal.; 21 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Funeral services were held Oct. 25 at 1:30 at the home and at 2 o'clock in the Immanuel church, Rev. Heimarck officiating. She had been a faithful member of this congregation for 28 years, manifesting her love for the Lord and His house by always being present at the services as long as she was able to be around; and she always found her place in the meetings of the ladies aid society.

The pallbearers were Lars Omvig, Iver Olson, Edwin Olson, E. P. Anderson, T. L. Mathre and Albert Jackson. The body was laid to rest in Fairview cemetery.

Brandrup, Lester Brandrup, Marius Brandrup and Mrs. Gertrude Brandrup of Webster City; Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Miller of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Stevens and Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Stevens of Nevada; Mrs. Peter Dale, Mrs. Will Trestrake, Mrs. Earl Chenoweth and Mrs. William Chenoweth of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Wing, Mr. and Mrs. I. L. Berven, Mrs. Haus Hanson, Miss Belle Hanson, Miss Dena Tynning, Mrs. Elmer Nelson, Mrs. Frank Barquist and Mr. and Mrs. Ole Brudos and son Lawrence of Stanhope.
