HAD LIVED IN COUNTY 72 YEARS--WAS NATIVE OF TENNESSEE
John L. Holder, 74, for nearly all of those years a resident of Story county, died while sitting in his chair at his home on Eighth street, early Wednesday evening. He did his usual work during the day, ate his evening meal with his wife, wen out and visited with the neighbors and then sat down to rest. When Mrs. Holder wen t out later she found him, pipe in one hand, his tobacco in the other, but with head bowed in his final rest. The life strings of a weakened heart had snapped.
Mr. Holder was a native of Washington county, Tenn., where he was born March 7, 1852. When he was a lad of but two years the family came to Iowa and settled in the Iowa Center neighborhood, in Story county. With the exception of a few years spent with his children in Minnesota, this had been his home continuously since.
He was married to Hannah C. Booher, 51 years ago April 15 last, and she, with six of the 11 children born to them, survive him.

Farrington deceased, Vitus Holder, of Crookston, Minn., Charles Holder deceased, Everett Holder of Duluth, Earl Holder of Bainsville, Mont., Mrs. Rena Phillips and Carl Holder of Nevada.
Mr. Holder, while he always worked as a teamster or laboring man, was well known and very highly respected in the city. A quiet, unassuming man, he devoted his entire attention to his home and family and whenever not at work, he was to be found sitting in his home with his lifetime companion.
The funeral was held at the Evangelical church this afternoon at two o'clock, the sermon being preached by Rev. Wackerbarth. Interment was in the Nevada cemetery.
The son Everett Holder of Duluth arrived last night to be present at the funeral. The others were unable to be present.
Mrs. Holder and the members of the family will receive the sympathy of the community in the death of their husband and father.
