Xernia M. Kessell

Xernia M. Kessell, 97, a resident of Story County Hospital's Long Term Care Unit, Nevada, IA, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 1989. Cause of death was a heart ailment.

Kessell was born July 22, 1892 in Des Moines, IA, to Nation and Delia Mote. She moved to the Nevada area in 1960.

Kessell attended elementary and his school in Des Moines and received a teaching certificate from Hyland Park, also in Des Moines. She taught secondary school in Polk County, Montana and North and South Dakota. She then moved to Marathon, IA, where she met her husband, who was a barber.

She married Elmer J. Kessell July 28, 1923. She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and her parents.

Services were Friday, Aug. 11, 1989 at 1 p.m. at Nevada Baptist Church, with Rev. Robert A. King officiating. Burial was in the Nevada Cemetery. Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, was in charge of arrangements.
