Robert Wayne Pratt
August 23, 1925 - June 26, 2014

Robert "Bob" Pratt, Age 88, died at Northcrest Retirement Community in Ames, Iowa on Thursday, June 26, 2014. His body has been donated to the Mayo Foundation in Rochester, Minn. No memorial service is planned.

Bob Pratt was born on August 23, 1925 in Polk County and was adopted at the age of 5 by Wayne (Bessie) Pratt. He attended grade school in Colo, Iowa and moved to Lake City with his parents where he graduated in 1942.

He then attended Iowa State College for four quarters and the enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served from November 1943 to December 1945 and then returned to Iowa State University in the fall of 1946. He graduated from Iowa State in December 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.

He was engaged to Geri Greenfield and they married in March 1950. Bob went to work for the Iowa Highway Commission upon his graduation. He started in the Des Moines construction office, as an inspector and later as a Survey Crew Chief. He worked his way through the ranks to become the Assistant Resident Engineer, then the Resident Engineer and later the Freeway Construction Engineer. His office administered the construction of the portion of the Des Moines Freeway from Cottage Grove Ave. east to Ninth Street.

Bob transferred to the Central Office in January 1966 as the Assistant Right of Way Engineer. In 1973 Bob transferred to the construction office and worked in several disciplines before transferring to the Contracts Office in 1980. He became the Director of the Office of Contracts in 1986 and retired in March of 1988.

Since his retirement Bob has played a lot of golf from April to November, and has supported the Iowa State Cyclone Football and Basketball teams.
He was preceded in death by his Wife Geri in 2001 and his daughter Cathy in 1990. He has a son Jim and daughter in law Myra in New York.

Memorial Contributions can be made to the Bliss Cancer Center in Ames.
