Mary Dean Wright
Sept. 30, 1929 to Oct. 31, 1997Mary Dean Wright, 68, of Zearing and formerly of Nevada, died of a massive heart attack on Friday, Oct. 31, in the Story County Hospital emergency room in Nevada.
She was born Sept. 30, 1929, to Leo and Gladys (Roberts) Fanning in Nemaha.
On Feb. 25, 1951, she married James E. Wright in Westbend. She attended Iowa State University for one year. She lived as a homemaker and was employed by the Story County Treasurer's Office for a few years. She had lived in Nevada for 36 years and has lived in Zearing since 1992. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Zearing, a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Nevada, a member of ODO, United Methodist Women and Senior Citizens of Zearing. She was also a township clerk for Nevada Township and an election official for Nevada Township and Zearing. Her interests included gardening and indoor plants, needlework, bird watching, crocheting, sewing, reading and doing crossword puzzles.
Survivors include her husband James E. Wright of Zearing; two sons, Edmond Wright of Zearing and Marvin Wright (and wife Jill) of McCallsburg; a daughter, Linda Wright of McCallsburg; three grandchildren, Curtis, Rachel and Mark Wright; three brothers, Allen Fanning of Shelbyville, Ill, Robert Fanning of Lower Burrell, Penn., and David Fanning of San Leandro, Calif.; and one sister, Eugenia Grimm of Eloomington, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Evelyn I. Wright on Aug. 15, 1990.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, Nov. 4, at Bethel United Methodist Church in Zearing with Pastor Lynn Gunderson officiating. Burial of the cremains was held in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Colonial Manor of Zearing. Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, handled arrangements.
