Stella Vera Wait
Sept. 3, 1905 to June 29, 2001Stella Vera Wait, 95, of Ames and formerly of Nevada, died of complications of leukemia on Friday, June 29, at the Israel Hospice House in Ames.
She was born Sept. 3, 1905, in Coleridge, Neb., to David and Mary (Schwarzenbach) Darland. She was a 1927 graduate of the University of Nebraska and married Merlin R. Wait on June 2, 1930, in Coleridge. She was a homemaker and taught high school English in Coon Rapids and Denison. She was a member of the Denison United Methodist Church, a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Literature Division of Nevada Woman's Club and Mary Circle of the First United Methodist Church in Nevada. She had been a resident of Ames for the past year and a half, and had lived in Nevada for 12 years prior to that. She had also enjoyed being a Big Red fan, needlepointing, quilting and reading.
Survivors include a son, David M. (and Doris) Wait of Nevada; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Her parents; her husband on April 6, 1990; two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 2, at First United Methodist Church in Nevada with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. Burial was in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in her name for the Nevada Public Library. Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, handled arrangements.
